I’ve said it before: Folk Alliance gatherings are more than professional conferences; they’re “back stage passes” to hundreds of serious, top-shelf artists from around the world.
While making small talk this morning with follow conference-goers (folk legend) Tom Paxton and Peggy DeVilbiss, they kindly invited me to join them for brunch. Um… wow, sure! We were joined by film scorer and world musicologist David Amram and entertainment executive Doug Yeager. Over salads and genuine New Orleans “po’ boy” sandwiches, we bemoaned the volume of the DJ’s music (which he kindly turned down upon request), debated which alcoholic drinks on the menu were best (but didn’t partake today), and digested the news of Kobe Bryant’s sudden death.
